Results of Computer Assisted Instruction at Bath Elementary School.
Martha Holden Jennings Foundation, Cleveland, OH.
This pilot project at Bath Elementary School at Richfield, Ohio, was conducted to assess the feasibility of computer assisted instruction (CAI) for the Revere Local Elementary Schools. The primary focus of the project was to assist sixth grade students in using the computer as an interactive instructional system in the areas of remedial reading, mathematics, and vocabulary. All 100 sixth-grade students used the computer daily for a school semester for either remediation or enrichment. Preliminary data showed that students gained an average of 2.4 months in reading proficiency during the months they used the computer, and academic gains were reported to be higher for those students who used CAI. The project report includes a sample of a student computer survey, parent computer survey, work and sign up schedules used during the pilot program, and newspaper/newsletter reports on the project.
