SPINDEX Users Conference. Proceedings of a Meeting Held at Cornell University (Ithaca, New York, March 31 and April 1, 1978).
Hickerson, H. Thomas, Ed.
These conference proceedings contain 21 papers presented by users of the Selective Permutation Indexing (SPINDEX) system, designed by the National Archives to produce a variety of computer-generated bibliographic aids for archival holdings. Institutions participating in the SPINDEX users' conference represented government, church, university, disciplinary, and corporate archives and records management programs in the United States and Canada. Papers were presented by users and by SPINDEX representatives in these catagories: (1) current applications in archival control, (2) designing tag (data field) structures, (3) data entry and computer-generated results, (4) SPINDEX III (a system update offering greater sophistication in text and index listings), (5) technical aspects of SPINDEX use, and (6) the future development of SPINDEX. Illustrative materials from the presentations are appended. (SW)
