This document briefly outlines first year (fiscal year 1979) activities funded under the Career Education Incentive Act of 1977 (Public Law 95-207), which provided for a five year Federal/State effort in career education. These activities are included: (1) conducting of a series of mini-conferences, four regional conferences, and a national conference on the relationships of community-based organizations to career education by InterAmerica Research Associates; (2) dissemination of information about Federal sources of occupational and career information in collaboration with the National Occupational Information Coordinating Committee; (3) dissemination of information about exemplary career education programs already in operation by the National Diffusion Network; (4) the first phase of a projected two-phase contract for evaluation of the implementation of the act with the American Institutes for Research with additional funding from the Office of Evaluation and Dissemination; and (5) distribution of funds to the Insular Areas, States, District of Columbia, and Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to assist in development of comprehensive elementary/secondary career education programs in local educational agencies. Appendixes provide summary descriptions of the first four activities and a listing of the State Coordinators of Career Education. (YLB)
