A Multi-Dimensional Tutoring and Academic Counseling Model: Applications and Effects Upon Minority High School Students.

An experiment was conducted to investigate the relationship between Tutoring and Academic Counseling (TAC) and the academic performance of minority group high school students. The treatment group of 16 students was exposed to TAC, an intensive program of one-to-one tutoring in academic areas and counseling on study skills and interpersonal relationships. Treatment lasted 16 weeks. The grade point averages of the experimental group were compared to those of a matched control group. An analysis of data indicated that TAC-exposed students achieved significantly higher grade point averages than students who did not receive the treatment. Suggestions for further research and tutorial programs are included. (Author/MK)
