Recreation and Public Law 94-142: A Guide for Recreation and Leisure Education for Handicapped Children.

The booklet is designed to help educators understand recreation services for handicapped children in the schools. An introductory section considers the importance of leisure for the handicapped and reviews the inclusion of recreation as a related service in P.L. 94-142, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act. The second section addresses recreation's role in the individualized education program. Evaluation of leisure patterns, living environment, and leisure life style are seen as important aspects of leisure education. Community recreation services for the handicapped, including camps, are focused upon. Final sections address model recreation services in the schools, school and community cooperation, and the qualifications of recreation personnel. Appendixes include an interview schedule for assessment of leisure function and a list of recreation equipment resources. (CL)
