Planning for Ethnic Education: A Handbook for Planned Change. Revised Edition.

This handbook was developed to provide practical examples of how to incorporate a multicultural emphasis into the school curriculum. Parts I, II, and III divide suggested activities by grade level: preschool-kindergarten, primary, middle elementary, and junior high school. Part I provides examples of how ethnic studies can be implemented into the curriculum. Methods for increasing awareness of and sensitivity to cultural differences are presented in Part II. The focus of Part III is on decision making strategies for value clarification in a multicultural curriculum. A guide to resources for multicultural education in Illinois is provided in Part IV. Part V presents guidelines for evaluating and selecting instructional materials. Part VI presents checklists to assist in the development of policies and practices for multiethnic education. Definitions of key terms used in the handbook are appended. (MK)
