Development and Implementation of a Sequential Music Program for the Kindergarten Teacher.
Locke, Walter T.
This paper describes the development and implementation of a sequential musical program, designed to be taught by non-musical classroom teachers in kindergarten through grade six. Chapter I provides a general background of the political influences which brought about the low status of music at Melaleuca Elementary School and other elementary schools within Palm Beach County, Florida. Chapter II relates the terminal objectives, as they pertain to the students, and provides a discussion of the rationale for these objectives. Process objectives and strategies used to meet the terminal objectives are contained in Chapter III. Chapter IV contains evaluation data (formative and goal free), a discussion of the format of the assessment instrument and a discussion of a Time-Task Calendar. Chapter V consists of conclusions and recommendations formed as a result of the development and implementation of this practicum, and Chapter VI contains information for the institutionalization and dissemination of the Program/Process/Product. Directions for administering the program to elementary school teachers, suggestions for weekly lesson plans, and information about the State and District Instruction Materials Council are included in appendices.
