A Contrastive Analysis between Korean and English for ESL Teachers.

This contrastive analysis comprises the four linguistic levels of phonology, lexicon, syntax, and "culture." The analysis is selective in that only certain major contrasts between the two languages are chosen for discussion. The aspects of the languages that constitute some major problem areas for an average Korean learner of English as a second language (ESL) are discussed. The analysis is pragmatic in that it is designed to be of practical help to the teacher. Actual and potential learning problems are treated. Since the analysis is ESL-specific, it leaves out account of such contrasts as might constitute problem areas for native speakers of English learning Korean as a second language. (Author/JB)
