Identifying Preschool Handicapped Children. Reporting to "Child Find" in Ohio: 1980.
Patterson, Mary T.; Mazzoli, Louis A.
Designed for use by parents and Head Start facilities in Ohio, the manual outlines procedures for identifying preschool handicapped children. The first chapter explores the rationale for identification of handicapped children. In the second chapter, Ohio standards for inclusion in special education are provided in eight handicapping categories along with definitions of handicapping conditions used by Head Start programs. Instructions for the use of various forms (and the forms themselves) instrumental in the identification process are given in the third chapter. Chapter 4 discusses other agency considerations such as follow through activities and parent roles. Appendixes include definitions of relevant terms, addresses of Ohio agencies that assist in child find activities, and information useful in referring handicapped children to Ohio school districts.
