Design for Developing a Program of School Improvement.
Alabama State Dept. of Education, Montgomery.
In 1972-73, the Alabama State Department of Education along with the University of Alabama College of Education instituted an experimental program in two Alabama school systems. The program was designed to identify the districts' educational priorities to be submitted as part of proposals for federal funding. This report describes the steps in that program in a way designed to help local school systems in determining their own priorities. The program consisted of four parts: identifying educational goals for schools and school systems; determining the effectiveness of the existing programs in meeting the educational goals; determining the areas needing improvement; and implementing a program for improvement. The following questionnaires and forms are included in the appendix: the educational goals questionnaire, the form for tabulating data, the instructional needs questionnaire, the dropout summary data form, and the follow-up graduates questionnaire model.
