Selection and Use of Standardized Tests: A Resource Book for School and District Personnel.

A statement of the major issues surrounding the use of standardized tests in schools is provided, covering the following areas of concern: (1) the major types of standardized tests and how they differ from teacher-made tests; (2) the role of standardized tests in education; (3) administering/scoring standardized tests; (4) interpretation of standardized test scores; (5) reporting results of standardized tests; and (6) establishing a standardized testing program. Some practical guides to aid in specific problems of selecting and using tests are listed in the appendices: a checklist is cross-referenced to the rest of the book so items may be explored in detail; a glossary of measurement terms; a list of test review periodicals; a list of test publishers; descriptions of selected tests; test administration guide; and, resources essential to a district testing program.
