The Markets of the 1980's.
Young, Dale A.
Surveys of selected area employers and high school seniors were conducted by Stark Technical College (STC) in 1979 as part of a marketing research project designed to forecast future educational needs. The student survey involved the selection of five area high schools representing urban, suburban, rural, public, and private institutions. The 1,174 seniors at these schools were asked to indicate their future occupational and/or educational goals, their familiarity with STC, and their preferences regarding local media. A series of questions was also provided to identify the respondent's sex, ethnicity, and grade point average. The 121 participants of the employer survey, representing private business, government, health care institutions, professional services, and communications, were asked to identify the job categories of their current employees, to project their needs for technically educated employees over the next five years and to indicate their attitudes toward the effectiveness of STC's training. The study report analyzes findings, provides resultant recommendations concerning future curriculum development at STC, and discusses the occupational outlook of its service district based on government, demographic, enrollment, and labor force data. The questionnaires and a bibliography are appended. (JP)
