Unit Expenditures Study, 1976-1977. State of Washington Council for Postsecondary Education. Report No. 80-7.
Fischer, Norman M.
Expenditure patterns that relate costs per full-time-equivalent student to faculty salaries and benefits, direct instructional support costs, and indirect or overhead support for 1976-77 for the State of Washington are examined. The overall student/faculty ratios and average salaries and benefits for full-time and part-time faculty and graduate assistants are also considered. The comparative analysis excludes the four-year health science disciplines and departmental and academic administration. Separate sections that analyze the departmental administration and health science areas are included. Separate analysis is provided comparing the 1974-75 results to 1976-77 findings. A separate section on research and public service expenditures is also included. Most of the results are displayed by course level and institutional sector. The study methodology is described, and data for each community college are included. The step-by-step process for the allocation of indirect costs as adopted by the Senate and House Higher Education Committees in 1977 is outlined. (Author/SW)
