Two Models for Pre-Retirement Education.

Intended primarily for students of the Education for the Retirement Years training workshops (University of Oregon Center for Gerontology), this manual for pre-retirement education facilitators is a practical guide to the methodological concepts discussed and demonstrated during the on-campus training. Chapter 1 offers a brief statement on pre-retirement education content, including references to foundational readings whose broader theoretical and research perspectives can illuminate the content issues for the prospective program leader. Content issues continue to take on definition in the more protracted discussions of methodology in chapters 2-3. Chapter 2 presents a framework for considering the variety of program methods currently applied in pre-retirement education, as well as a general historical perspective on the development of various design concepts. Chapter 3 provides outlines and leader guidance for the two models being demonstrated at the Center--the small-group interaction model and the multi-group workshop. Consideration of different time arrangements and topical sequencing becomes a part of that discussion. Forms and exercises are included. Appendixes include an extensive reading list in the subject matter and an annotated list of films of gerontological interest. (YLB)
