A booklet for limited English speakers on dealing with consumer problems provides information on talking to businesses, getting someone on your side, going to the law, and stopping problems before they start. Cartoons, questions about the message in cartoons and narrative passages, checklists on things to consider, and the phonetic pronunciation of key words are presented. Specific topics include the following: (1) communicating with business about a consumer problem by visiting a store in person, telephoning, and writing a letter; (2) getting help from local and state government agencies that help consumers, business groups, and private consumer groups; (3) taking the complaint to a small claims court, going to court, and getting the money; and (4) contacting legal services for some problems. Definitions are provided for legal terms. Situations where problems can be avoided are described. (SW)
