Project OMEGA Experience Based Career Education. Third Year Evaluation and Project Summary. Final Report.

The evaluation of the third year of Project OMEGA, an experience-based career education project, focused on three general areas of student ability: career education knowledge, basic skills, and competency in career areas. Experimental and control groups were assessed using the Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills, Career Education Skills Tests, and competency report including a measure on 13 competencies concerning whether community certification could be shown, and a teacher's scaled work evaluation. In addition to a statistical analysis, a comparative analysis was made to the first and second year of project operation. Surveys of parent and employer attitudes were also conducted. Over the two years of evaluation, the statistical analysis demonstrated that the program was successful in providing better career knowledge gains in students while not hindering their basic skills development. Generally little difference in basic skills was found between experimental and control groups. When a difference was found, it was generally in the direction of a higher score for the experimental group. In no case did the experimental group appear to suffer in their basic skills. Regarding the career education gain scores, it was apparent that the greatest gain was in grade 12 students, and particularly in females.
