This annotated bibliography describes the contents and critically evaluates 654 social science books and collections of journal articles in women's studies. The objective is to assist in research and in the organization of undergraduate or graduate courses on women. The resources are presented in nine sections. Section I covers anthropology, including women in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Central and South America, the Middle East and Mediterranean countries, North America, and the Pacific. Section II lists resources in economics, with subtopics such as labor force participation, occupations, professional and managerial women, and working wives and mothers. Section III focuses on United States, international, and economic history. Section IV covers psychology, including sex differences, female personality and sexuality, and psychoanalytic theory. The sociology section presents books on women and society, marriage and motherhood, and sex roles and socialization. Section VI lists books on contemporary feminist thoughts, including the feminist movement. Final sections present bibliographies, related journals, and other reference tools. Each section includes a content overview and a list of general books on the topic, and is organized according to author. Full bibliographic information, except price, is included. The annotations describe the scope, content, and focus or thesis and include evaluative comments and statement of possible use. The majority of the books were published in the 1960s and 1970s, although basic earlier resources are included. Some entries are suitable for high school students.
