Helping Children through Books; A Selected Booklist. Revised Edition.
Ott, Helen Keating
This annotated bibliography lists children's books under four general headings, each of which is subdivided into more specific subject areas: (1) living with oneself--knowing abilities, accepting oneself, overcoming fears, developing values; (2) living with others--with one's family, with one's friends; (3) broadening one's friendships--American Indians, Black Americans, Chinese and Japanese Americans, Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans; and (4) understanding some special concerns--hospitalization, death, religion, contemporary problems. Books appropriate for primary, intermediate, junior, and all-ages levels are listed separately in each category. Most of the books are fiction and present particular problem situations; many overlap the arbitrary groupings. Included are a bibliography of sources consulted and author and title indexes. (JD)
