APL Made Easy. A Card Catalogue of 100 Lesson Plans and a Teacher's Guide. A 309 Adult Education Project, July 1, 1978-June 30, 1979.

This teacher's guide and one hundred lesson plans are an adult performance level (APL) curriculum to assist adult basic education (ABE) teachers in switching to a competency based adult education program which integrates academic and life skills concepts into one lesson. The teacher's guide describes the project need, product, method of determining product scope, and product evaluation procedures. It also contains a participant's Life Skills Checklist, Bibliography of Resource Materials, and a section on using the lesson plans. Directed toward a specific competency in one of the five APL areas, lesson plans are divided into these groups (each group containing twenty lesson plans): occupational knowledge, consumer economics, health and safety, government and law, and community resources. The file card format for each lesson plan includes headings and codes keyed to the participant's Life Skills Checklist, estimated classroom teaching time, APL area, specific life skills topics, and lesson plan. The lesson plan provides (1) teacher preparation, (2) basic skills--both academic and life skills to be acquired by the participant, (3) specific activities, (4) demonstration of competence, and (5) individual life skill activity. Any resource materials to be used by teacher or student are coded to correspond to a bibliographic listing in the teacher's guide. (YLB)
