The Effects of an Activity Based Curriculum (ABC) upon the Academic Achievement of Disadvantaged High School Students.

This report examines individualized instructional approaches to teaching, reviews of the literature in that field with specific reference to Upward Bound programs, and reports on a research study which investigated the relationship between an Activity Based Curriculum (ABC) and the academic performance of economically disadvantaged high school students. Seventeen students were treated with the independent variable, the ABC, while another seventeen with the same characteristics were used as the comparison group and not exposed to ABC. An analysis of grade point averages of all students indicated that those involved with ABC achieved significantly higher grade point averages than non-ABC students. Suggestions are made for further research on this instructional approach. A bibliography and tables are included. (Author/WP)
