Classroom Creativity Observation Schedule. Direction Manual. Revised.
Denny, David A.
The Classroom Creativity Observation Schedule (CCOS) is designed to gather objective information about student and teacher behaviors which relate to students' creative growth. The revised schedule, based on the 1966 version, is composed of eight items designed to assess classroom behavior on the dimensions of: motivational climate; student-student relationships; teacher-student relationship; student interests; student initiative and control of instruction; teacher approach; provision for divergent thinking; and encouragement of unusual student response. Both verbal and non-verbal behaviors are assessed, and the contexts of behaviors are considered. Two types of items are included, a category type in which the observer directly locates behavior on a dimension according to detailed instructions, and a measurement type in which symptomatic behaviors are recorded as signs within defined dimensions. The units of teacher behavior and classroom variables sampled are two minutes in length, and behaviors occurring during these intervals are categorized. (Detailed instructions for recognizing and coding relevant behaviors, a blank score sheet, and two tables for quick computation of results are included). (Author/GDC)
