Student Teaching as Studentship: An Ethnographic Investigation.
deVoss, Gary G.
The enculturation of two beginning student teachers was examined and described. In addition, the effects on classroom activities before, during, and after the student teachers carried out their assignments are discussed. Ethnographic techniques such as observation and interview were employed to collect information and the case studies are presented from the student teachers' point of view. The participating student teachers aided in the final analysis, which revealed that student teachers perceive the field experience as a terrifying time and try to mask their fears by various strategies, such as emphasizing external control or rejecting theory.
