Elementary School Mathematics in Canada: The Nature of Provincial Elementary Mathematics Curricula as Perceived by Ministries of Education, School and Teacher Personnel.
This survey of current provincial elementary school mathematics curricula as perceived by ministries of education, school and teacher education personnel was undertaken to attempt to identify common priorities in programs. As the survey progressed it became evident that within the provincial arena, stated objectives did not necessarily represent actual practice. But in spite of the vertically structured educational scene in Canada and a wide diversity of student, teacher, and institutional goals and capabilities, certain "national trends" often expressed as needs or concerns can be identified.
