From July 1978 through June 1979, 2,703 students graduated from the Hawaii community college system, an increase of 6% over the previous year's total. During this period, 2,819 degrees and certificates were awarded; 31% were Associate in Arts, 48% Associate in Science, and 21% Certificates of Achievement. Systemwide, 54% of the graduates were male. However, females comprised 91% of health program and 99% of secretarial/clerical program graduates; 88% of the technology program graduates were male. Analysis by program showed that the 11 programs with the greatest number of graduates were liberal arts (857 graduates), clerical (156), accounting (149), secretarial science (136), auto mechanics technology (131), practical nursing (120), food services (120), mid-management/merchandising-management (80), police science (69), and hotel operation and electronics (58 each). A total of 137 Certificates of Completion were also awarded for job skills courses. The study report includes data tables illustrating the number and types of degrees awarded, the number of graduates earning two or more diplomas, and the number of certificates of completion awarded.
