Animation in the Schools.
Greer, Martin L.
Directed to the class or individual with limited film making equipment, this paper presents a "hands on" guide to the production of animated cartoons. Its 14 sections deal with the following topics: understanding animation; choosing subject matter for an animation; writing a script; getting the timing right; choosing a camera and projector; developing a cartoon character model sheet; assembling materials and making job assignments; building a simple machine that allows the director to preview the animation; developing a filing system for the animation drawings; choosing backgrounds for the animation; animating lip movements; photographing cartoons; editing the film; and adding sound to the film. The paper concludes with lists of learning objectives and review questions for each section of the paper. Charts and illustrations are included in several of the sections. (GT)
