The Assessment of Competencies for a Comprehensive Delivery System of Guidance. Final Report, October 1, 1977-June 30, 1979.
Gibson, Robert L.
A project was conducted to identify and describe existing exemplary practices and models for upgrading on a continuous basis the required knowledge and competencies of those who provide comprehensive systems of guidance. Following data collection, including site visits and analysis, the project addressed itself to the design of a system of providing information necessary for the planning and implementation of comprehensive, competency-based training programs. The foundation for the analyses of data was based on the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision position of fifteen competencies necessary for counselors and constituting a minimum of skills for entry into the profession. Project outcomes included inventories of training modules and methods, credentialing methods, and a limited survey of commercial materials for training and methods for dissemination. Appended materials include a list of counselor competencies for career development, sample questionnaires, an annotated bibliography of career information materials, and addresses of organizations where more information may be requested concerning specific careers.
