The Land of the Armenians.
Soghikian, Juanita Will; Hacobian, Mossik
This booklet for the upper elementary grades introduces students to Armenian history and geography. The document, one of a series of seven instructional materials dealing with the history and culture of American Armenians, is outlined in seven sessions. In Session I students read a geographic description of the historic Armenian homeland, color places on a map, and begin construction of a large topographical map. Session II contains a brief reading and worksheet on the mountains of historic Armenia. Students construct mountains for the relief map begun in Session I. Sessions III, IV, and V present readings and worksheets on earthquakes, volcanoes, lakes, seas, and rivers. Students carve out these areas on the relief map and begin painting. Session VI discusses Armenian mountain ranges and valleys and Session VII describes vegetation and animals. Students complete the relief map in this session. The pattern for the map may be obtained through the Armenian Relief Society, 212 Stuart Street, Boston, Massachusetts 02116. The booklet may be used independently of other materials in the series.
