Audience Data as a Decision-Making Tool for Public Television.

Audience research activities were carried out to continue the development of the capacity of Pennsylvania Public Television Network (PPTN) station personnel to understand the use of audience rating information for programming and promotion decisions. The project consisted of (1) continuing the PPTN contract with Arbitron to secure access to their AID audience assessment system; (2) using AID to track statewide and individual PPTN station audiences and to secure audience rating and audience flow data for specific programs; and (3) planning, developing, and conducting the fourth annual PPTN audience research workshop. A review of four-year audience rating trends for PPTN and a description of the content and evaluation of the audience research workshop conclude this report. Three appendices contain data for average weekly cumes, brief summaries of the year's Planned Program Innovations, and results of the audience research workshop. (Author/CMV)
