Con-Cept IV: Task Force Report on Identifying the Talented in the Creative Arts.
Saunders, Robert J., Ed.; Schmidt, Lloyd, Ed.
The Connecticut task force report, half of which consists of appendixes, discusses the identification of children and youth who are gifted and talented in the creative arts. General identification criteria and strategies are outlined, along with specific criteria for each discrete art form, including music, theater, visual arts, dance, and creative writing. Administrative designs for arts programs for gifted and talented students are reviewed. Six Connecticut projects providing operational models for identifying the talented in the creative arts are described: the Center for Creative Youth, the Creative Arts Community, the Education Center for the Arts, Interarts, Norwalk's Artistically/Creatively Talented Program, and Talent Search. Appendixes include student nomination and application forms, sample evaluation rating sheets, tasks for auditions and interviews, identification criteria stated in behavioral objective terms, a list of standardized tests in art and music, sample scales for rating behavioral characteristics of superior students, and a bibliography.
