The Writing of School Philosophy. Research and Services Bulletin No. 34.
Armstrong, Robert L.
Intended to meet the needs of school faculties in writing the school philosophy and behavioral objectives, this guide proceeds step-by-step, defining and explaining each facet of the process. According to the document, a school philosophy must consider the scope and nature of the educative process, the characteristics and needs of students served, and the outcomes to be attained. The importance of behavioral objectives is stressed. The author recommends prefacing the philosophy with a position statement that states general beliefs about education. Then the heart of the document, the general educational objectives, must be written. The author explains how to select a group to write the philosophy and how this group ought to proceed. (Author/JM)
