The Principles of Vocational Education: Revisited in Preparation for the 1980's.
Pautler, Albert J.; Bregman, Ralph
In this paper, the authors examine the issues, problems, implications, rationale, and basic assumptions behind the need for a discussion dealing with the principles of vocational education. They attempt to encourage a re-examination of these principles of vocational education for the purpose of preparing for and improving vocational education in the next decade. First, the authors review, within an historical context, a variety of lists of principles which have guided vocational education in the past. Next, they examine the direction of vocational education and its relationship to all of education, to general education, and to vocational training. Next, these relationships are clarified. Finally, the authors present a list of principles which they hope will encourage still greater dialogue and concern by all those associated with or interested in vocational education. (BM)
