Replication of an Experiment with a Research-Based Inservice Teacher Education Program. Final Report.
Gage, N. L.; Coladarci, Theodore
Research is reported on inservice teacher training through "minimal" intervention--i.e., one in which recommended teaching practices are communicated to teachers by mail, along with rationales, examples, and self-administered and self-scored quizzes. Training materials were mailed to the experimental-group over a five-week period, two two-hour classroom observations were made, pupil and teacher questionnaires were administered, and pupil-achievement data were collected. Comparison of the training group and an untrained group indicated the teacher behaviors did not differ significantly and pupil achievement did not differ significantly. Teacher conformity to recommendations correlated positively and substantially with class achievement. (JD)
