Relationships Among the Four Communication Skills during the Primary School Years.
This is the first report arising from a large-scale research project on the development of skills in English in the primary schools of Sydney, Australia. Specifically, it reports on a study of the extent of the relationship among the four communication skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) in a sample of 314 children and on a longitudinal study of the developing pattern of relationships among the skills as those children proceeded through primary school. The report provides information on the sample and the measures of communication skills used in the study, the rating procedure for the student compositions and talks, the results, and the implications of the study.
