Faculty Development in Health Education.

A description is given of the salient factors that should be considered in developing a model program for improvement of college health education faculty. Four major areas critical to this model are identified. First, the overall educational objectives of the institution must be analyzed and understood. Of second importance is the establishment of specific evaluative criteria that may be used as the standard by which faculty members are evaluated in a nonthreatening, supportive way. A reward system, either financial or through other means of recognition of merit, should be instituted as a motivational factor. Sensitive administration of and full communication within the institution are considered essential to the success of such a program. (JD)
