This paper contains a description of key features of the Summer Institute on Teaching and Assessing Writing Skills, which was organized to help parents, teachers, and administrators in the Boston Public Schools begin to develop a comprehensive and coordinated writing program from kindergarten through grade 12 in each district. It also offers highlights from the evaluation of the institute by its participants. A postscript describes a follow-through meeting by participants on the sixth day of the institute. (FL)
