The College Orientation Workshop: A Counseling Model and Curriculum Module.
Ray, Barbara H.
The development and evaluation of a counseling model, the College Orientation Workshop for college-bound students, was investigated. A questionnaire was administered to juniors at Pensacola Catholic High School. Student responses to the questionnaire determined the number of students to participate in the workshop as well as the information desired by the students. The two-hour workshop, designed to accommodate 30 students maximum, was offered four times. A counseling model was developed with a manual to be used by the counselor and each participant. The effectiveness of the workshop was determined by tabulation of performance objectives reached during the workshop by participants and subjective opinions of the workshop participants in small groups at the end of the workshop. Results indicated that there were no negative reactions to the workshop and that it can be used as an integral part of a college preparatory curriculum for all college-bound students--both vocational-technical program students and four-year college program students. Appendices contain survey questions and responses; some information is geographically-specific. (Author)
