The five articles in this journal issue focus on reading instruction for atypical learners. The topics covered are: defining the atypical student, developing qualitatively different reading programs for gifted students, bibliotherapy for the atypical reader, helping students confronted with mainstreaming develop understanding of the handicapped through children's literature (a reading list is included), and the treatment of the handicapped in adolescent fiction.
