This monograph addresses the issue of alcohol use and abuse in Spanish-speaking communities of the United States. Two annotated bibliographies are included. The first covers cross-cultural research about alcohol use and abuse and works specifically relating to Latin America. The second bibliography contains articles on Mexican American, Puerto Rican, and other Spanish-speaking communities in the U.S. A review of alcohol education and alcohol prevention materials is also provided. Several original articles concerned with the conceptualization, planning, and implementation of alcoholism programs and treatment approaches are also included in this volume. Recommendations for improving efforts in the areas of alcoholism research, prevention, and education relevant to Spanish-speaking communities are made. Brief reports and recommendations of concerned individuals are appended. (EB)
