Contemporary Canadian Policies and Practices in the Education of Immigrant Children.

The issues and difficulties of providing equal educational opportunity in a widely multicultural country, such as Canada, are addressed. The French-English conflict is considered only as a highly visible indication of a more profound social dilemma. Several educational programs intended to meet the language and social needs of immigrant children are discussed, and a case is made for multicultural education as an important instrument in implementing a national cultural tolerance.
