Inservice Teacher Training in the Use of the Responsive Program: Teacher Training Notebook.

This notebook provides materials for inservice teacher training in the use of the responsive education program for preschool children. Section I presents an overview of the responsive program, lists characteristics of young children and provides a guide to using the training materials. Section II includes a guide to the before-school teacher training workshop and the inservice teacher training program. The guides in Section II refer frequently to specific activities and procedures described in the Learning Activities Booklets which accompany The New Nursery School text used in the responsive program. The topics and classroom activities suggested in the guides are grouped in three 12-week cycles. Section III contains six articles intended to provide background information on the procedures and approaches used in implementing the responsive program. Section IV of the notebook contains an article and two bibliographies which provide further background for teachers who are working with culturally different children. It also contains a list of additional films and filmstrips and sources from which they may be obtained. Additional training materials recommended in the notebook include the eight basic toys used in the program, a handbook for teacher assistants in the use of specific responsive toys, and eight filmstrips and accompanying cassette tapes that enable teacher assistants and parents to learn to play specific games with children.
