The document presents Module 10, guidance and counseling for the gifted/talented, of the Star Power modules developed for school personnel who have an interest in or a need to explore the area of gifted and talented education. It is explained in an introductory section that the module can be used for independent study, for small group interaction, or for a large group inservice program. The document is divided into four major sections: seeing undeveloped talent (which involves recognizing issues related to testing the gifted/talented and discovering appropriate ways of identifying gifted/talented students whose test scores do not reveal their potential); nurturing and stimulating undeveloped talent (which involves understanding the academic problems encountered by the gifted/talented and discovering ways to help these students solve them); encouraging personal and social growth (which involves developing appropriate techniques for promoting the personal and social development of the gifted child); and making the most of talent with life planning (which involves helping the gifted/talented acquire information about a variety of careers, ways to prepare for them, and adult life styles which can be used as a basis for future career decisions).
