City School Policy.
City School Policy Committee, Portland, OR.
This city school policy is intended to provide a definition of the relationship between Portland, Oregon, and the Portland Public Schools. The city's responsibility for education lies in city programs that affect the public schools. Four themes run through the publication, including rejuvenation and maintenance of city neighborhoods, best use of public facilities, efficient delivery of human services, and protection of past investments in schools, parks, and homes, by assuring the wisest use of public funds. Particularly, the policies deal with equal access to education, school closures, facility use, parks and recreation, human services, youth employment, safety, the arts in education, and city services. Each chapter discusses goals, specific objectives, background, and rationales regarding each policy area. The document is intended for city staff people, city managers, school board members, school staff, and city residents. It is a revision of the earlier document "City School Policy, Discussion Draft."
