Focusing on new concepts in college reading, the papers in this volume were drawn from the thirteenth annual meeting of the National Reading Conference held in 1963. The 20 papers are grouped into three sections, the first of which contains descriptions and evaluations of reading programs, a study of methods of training teachers for the college-adult reading program, and discussions of the philosophical and psychological perspectives in reading. The second section contains presentations that deal with specific aspects of the reading process. Research findings are presented in the fields of vocabulary development, evaluative phonics, creativity, flexibility, interest, attitudes, cloze techniques, micromovements, and psychological needs of students. The third section consists of a critique of current research, and a comprehensive summary of research in college and adult reading for the preceding year. An appendix contains a copy of the by-laws of the National Reading Conference. (FL)
