Inservice Training for an Interdisciplinary Program in Consumers' Education in Urban, Rural, and Suburban Settings. Final Report.
Virginia Polytechnic Inst. and State Univ., Blacksburg. Div. of Vocational-Technical Education.
A project was conducted to provide teachers with training in the development of interdisciplinary, competency-based consumers' education for secondary students located in rural, urban, and suburban settings. One of the outcomes of the project was the development of a "Guide for Implementation of Consumers' Education in Rural, Suburban, and Urban Settings: Money Management, Financial Institutions, Credit, Purchasing Goods and Services, Consumer Protection" (available as CE 022 336). Emphasis was placed upon identifying strategies and utilizing existing consumer education resource materials that would enhance the learning process in these various settings. Pilot test evidence indicated that the inservice training approach provided an effective means to implement instruction in competency-based consumers education. Furthermore, post assessment results showed improvement in students' performance on the consumer skills assessment. (This final report includes a description of the project objectives and how these were met.) (JH)
