Analysis and Planning for Improved Distribution of Nursing Personnel and Services. Final Report.
Elliott, Jo Eleanor; Kearns, Jeanne M.
The goal of the Analysis and Planning Project was to strengthen the nursing community's ability to analyze and plan for improved distribution of nursing personnel and services. The objectives aimed at (1) developing analytical models and a data base for planning purposes; (2) identifying new approaches to improve the distribution and delivery of care; and (3) increasing the knowledge of and participation by nurses in health planning. A project advisory committee was formed to assist throughout the project. Several task forces were named to work with staff on developing the State Model, to work with staff and the subcontractor on the National Model, and to work with staff in addressing concerns related to data. A Taxonomy Committee on Nursing Practice was formed to develop a system of nomenclature, terminology, and definitions that might eventually be adopted by the entire profession. The Project Executive Committee provided coordination and planning for meeting the objectives of the various activities. Finally, a National Panel of Expert Consultants was convened to project nursing requirements on a national and state-by-state basis five years into the future. The objectives set forth for the project were met by the end of the contract period. (BM)
