S.I.Q. Student Information Questionnaire: Student Characteristics & Programs, Community College Centers, Fall 1978.
The eight Community College Centers of the San Francisco Community College District are responsible for credit-free and community service educational programs. Since 1972, a biennial study has been conducted to gather data on student characteristics, educational goals, and programs offered. This report summarizes the results of the 1978 Student Information Questionnaire (S.I.Q.) administered at the eight centers. Students are described in terms of various attributes such as sex, age, program orientation, ethnic background, ethnic composition at each center, student military history, previous educational attainment, weekly class hours, employment behavior, and desire for job placement and other services. The S.I.Q. also provides information on use of facilities and services. Results of the 1978 S.I.Q. are compared with results from previous studies, and graphs and tables illustrate trends in age, sex, and race of students, and their occupations and incomes. The distribution of responses on all questionnaire items is presented and results are then compared according to various subcategories, e.g., discipline of instruction, area of residence, student educational objectives, ethnic composition by center, and funding source for each center. Appendices to this report provide survey forms and sample computer printouts. (DR)
