Designed for trustees, college planners, and teachers and students of administration, this monograph presents a comprehensive approach to the design and development of modern community colleges. Topics covered in this book include: (l) state planning structures and regulation systems for higher education; (2) needs assessment techniques; (3) strategies for funding the college; (4) guidelines for appointing trustees and selecting a president; (5) how to train the college staff; and (6) how to develop philosophy, institutional objectives and college policies. Various approaches to designing the educational program are also presented, and chapters include discussion of instructional systems, innovative approaches to curriculum, media resources, administrative and student support services, as well as facility construction and final college accreditation procedures. Each of the fourteen chapters includes a list of selected readings and a chapter summary. Suggested activities and problems are included with each chapter which enhance the book's use as a textbook and instructional aid.
