New Special Libraries: A Summary of Research.
Special Libraries Association, Chicago, IL. Illinois Chapter.
This report synthesizes results of a special project to study the origins of new special libraries, including influences in their pre-establishment period, and critical factors in the first five years of their lives. A review of prior research, a census of new special libraries in Illinois, group interviews with librarians and managers, and a mail survey provide information on goals, management attitudes, librarian factors, users, and economic factors important to the establishment and success of new special libraries. Appendices include a selected bibliography of books and articles on special libraries for management audiences, a selected/annotated bibliography of articles on new special libraries, an evaluation of the research methods, and the questionnaires used in the study.
