Elementary Teachers' Perceptions of Communication Apprehension among Their Students: A Research Note.
Garrison, Karen R.; Garrison, John P.
A study was undertaken to investigate the relationship between 38 teachers' perceptions of students' oral communication apprehension, and 776 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students' self-reports of communication apprehension. The teachers listed the four most apprehensive and the four least apprehensive students in their classrooms, then administered a modified version of the Measure of Elementary Communication Apprehension (MECA) to all of their students. Results indicated a moderate, positive relationship between teacher rankings and student scores on the MECA. (Author/RL)
