The purpose of this booklet is to aid those teachers who wish to begin a course in advanced placement English language and composition. Five sections are included that outline different ways of organizing a course in language and composition. The topics discussed are: aims and modes in writing; semantics, structure, and style; argument and rhetoric; a thematic approach; and a multidisciplinary approach. All are based on general topics and include both the study of the process of writing and the reading and analysis of varieties of discursive prose.
